This has nothing to do with the Poll request I am doing right now, I kind of fell into this drawing. I started doodling a girl dancing and then Dazzler popped into my head and I googled some pics of her- then this happened.
To geek out a minute, I have to say Dazzler has a very nostalgic place in my heart. My brother and I were hard-core into comics (Marvel comics ONLY) during the early/mid 80s. This was when Byrne was drawing X-men, Miller was on Daredevil, Perez was on Titans (Okay, I bought some DC), etc. etc. It was GOOD times in comics. Then, Byrne introduces this new mutant (soon after Kitty Pryde, which was also awesome) called Dazzler in the pages of X-men. She was hot. A little late for that decade to have a disco type Farrah Fawcett type character (which was her undoing, I guess) but she was cool, we thought. Then we hear she was getting her own series! Awesome! Another 85 cents toward that comic! (Yep, it was cheap back then.) We waited. The first issue (after being delayed for awhile) came out around Christmas time, I think, and the cover was great. Painted cover, she looked great. We bought (and I still have) about 10 issues thinking it was gonna be huge and worth a ton of cash when I get old (like now)! It flopped. I don't know how many issues it went, but we only got the first couple. The interior art was terrible. The stories were lame. It WASN'T the X-men, that was for sure! So, I dedicate this drawing to LOST POTENTIAL. I still like her but just as an image. I couldn't tell you her character at all.
Another aside: Would Marvel really miss her if I just stole her and made a new comic with her? Seriously, they would miss her? No way. Here's the pitch: (making this up as I go) Allison Blair (hey, I remembered her name!) is the world's biggest party girl. She's actually become well-known (much like Lindsey Lohann, but without the drugs and not lesbian) for her exploits and medium level music career. Few know she has mutant powers that give her the ability to control light when she sings and also gives her the ability to eat whatever she wants and not gain weight. But, isn't there more to the world? She starts telling her party friends that she wants "something more". Disney song begins here. Then she meets Jake. He's just a normal guy that works at the club part time. During the day, though, he's a teacher at the middle school. She likes him immediately. He has an INNER LIGHT (hey, I like that, symbolism) that she hasn't seen before. She wants that. He has a purpose and he's helping people. The next day she surprises Jake and shows up at the school to become the middle school Glee club teacher! (Using her mesmerizing light abilities she gets the job, natch.) The kids have never seen a teacher like her! The boys slobber and the girls hate her immediately. These are GEEK kids and Allison immediately makes it her job to make them cool. (I think I've seen a show like this....) Anyway, its kind of Never Been Kissed meets Glee. Marvel? Are you listening? This thing is GOLD!
I love dazzler! They should do a lot more with her, but unfortunately they don't. I like your idea though - although if marvel or any other company wrote it, she would immediately become a teenager to make her more 'relatable'. >.<
She definitely has a unique feel to her. And that is one really good pitch for something you just made up on the fly...
My input? Make it whether Marvel likes it or not! Even if it were just something you did on the side here at DA, maybe even just for fun, I don't think you'd get any complaints from anybody. And I know I"D be taking an interest.
