These are a couple rough concepts of a rhino pirate that I'm doing for my buddy Stephen Silver. We're doing a book contribution swap! Do you like one more than the other? This won't be the final pose, just a general design idea.

One is great. Scary and natural. Shape and mouth are much more expressive. A great evil look too.

I like one better. He's bigger and seems more like a pirate. The second one is smaller and his nose is huge... he doesn't seem scary so much as... gawky

Hah. Adorable.

I'd go with one if you want the traditional 'you messin' with me?' deckhand. I prefer him personally for the nice use of the triangle for his torso.

2 has more of that 'I've got to prove myself' deal. I do like his gesture, it has a lot of personality. And I also like the use of curves to create form. Just his head a wee bit smaller and I think it'd be spot on.

i'm good with either, it just depends on what you want.
