Disney Animation Archive tour

Wed Jul 13, 2011, 4:17 PM
I thought you guys would like this article that has pictures of the Disney Animation Art Archive.  A rare sight.  Check out this link and you will also see some pics of my bro, Tony Bancroft, as well as my mentor and pal, Mark Henn!  It's all for the release of the new Lion King 3D film coming out soon.  My bro says its really well done.   They took the 2D film and made it 3D as well as fixing all of my scenes of Simba.  Just mine.  Okay, just kidding, but I'll have to tell you about the time that happened to me on Beauty and the Beast when it got rereleased for the Special Edition.  Another time.......[link]

Probably strange to still be receiving comments on this journal but I was just wondering if you knew if there are any tours through the animation archives in Glendale (I'm not sure if this one is the Glendale archive though) but I am thinking of visiting America soon and want to pay a visit to one of the animation archives. If you know anything about them or how I could tour one of them I'd be extremely grateful ^^; I know the studio itself isn't open for tours anymore but I assumed the archives were different? (I may be wrong)

I don't think they give tours. You probably need to know someone on the inside-someone big, probably. I'm not in California, so I don't know who that would be either. Good luck!

Hey Tom, I've always wondered... how does one go about turning a 2D film that was not made specifically for 3D into a 3D film? Because most 3D films are filmed in a way that looks good in 3D (lots of epic panning scenes, etc).

Also... I'M SO DANG EXITED ABOUT THIS. HNGG.

I can't wait!

Good question. I don't know how they did it. I assume they went back to each scene (in the computer, since that's how it was colored and composited) and work with the levels. That's what I would do, anyway!

Whoah yeah! I don't envy them one bit though haha xD There must be thousands of frames in that film! Wasn't it 24 FPS? And let's say it was an hour and a half long... that's 90 minutes.
That means there are around 129 600 frames in that film.

...

Yeah, I don't envy them at all
