Thank you to everyone who registered and tuned in to my first LIVE workshop last night! There were over 110 of you that watched and chatted as myself and my friend Taylor hosted the workshop. I did a LIVE sketch of the teen electricity superhero description that I had given to you all about 3 days before the workshop- see it here
[link] . There was a lecture on "Why We Draw" (a potential snippit from a future book?) and a review of some of your submissions of the teen superhero assignment. I would have liked to do more of those, so maybe next time I'll spend more time on that section of the workshop. There was some blurry camera/sound problems here and there and you guys were great about putting up with that. I am shopping for a new webcam today! We even had some trivia and the winner is going to get the original sketch I did at the beginning of the workshop! (Too bad she lives in Belgium- but she stayed up late for me, the least I can do is pay extra shipping, right?) I hope you all had a good time, learned a little bit, got to know each other a bit and are hungry for more! I know I am. We are looking into when the next one will be, but it won't be further out than a month. More information to come here and via charactermentorstudio.com email updates, so stay subscribed there! Let me know your thoughts and suggestions!
Good - The live sketch portion was cool to watch.
Okay - Enjoyed hearing the lecture.
Neutral - Q&A
Not so good - Did not feel as though the first workshop was well suited for beginners. As you are well aware the camera, sound and lighting were troublesome.
Overall: I realize this is the inaugural workshop and was likely to have some kinks but am satisfied to have attended and would likely attend future installments.
Suggestion(s): As I am a beginner, just like a child, I am being a bit selfish. In that, I would like to see a whole workshop dedicated to helping individuals like myself. Realistically and maturely though, my suggestion is that it would be great to say have a portion dedicated to addressing beginners issues. For example, a workshop where you address proportion and on another workshop foreshortening, etc.
Notes: I wonder if others, those who are beginners like me, that felt the same?
However, I'm glad to read it was a success. I also read the compilation over at Animator Island, the one you linked in facebook. It was a very good read and great advice!
I hope I can attend one in the near future,
